Since the International Health Regulations (IHR) entered into force in 2007, it has been difficult for countries to accurately assess the costs required to implement the IHR. To bridge this gap, Talus Analytics, in collaboration with Georgetown University, created a publicly-available web-based tool that estimates country-level costs for strengthening IHR compliance.
The interactive IHR Costing Tool guides users through a standardized process to estimate costs for implementing strategies to prevent, detect, and respond to public health threats. Assessing these costs enables countries to develop budgets and funding requests upon which to build a case with domestic policy makers or external partners. The framework of the IHR Costing Tool is driven by the Joint External Evaluation (JEE) process, used to assess progress in IHR implementation, so countries can build costed plans to enhance public health capacity based on prior JEE assessments.
